Dr Giada Giacomini is currently employed as Lecturer and Postdoctoral researcher at the Geneva Graduate Institute, Centre for International Environmental Studies. She works in the SNSF-funded project “Accountability of International Organizations,” led by Prof. Andonova. Her research focuses on the role of international accountability mechanisms in facilitating a just transition by holding international organizations accountable for adhering to social and environmental standards. She teaches the course “Environmental Justice, Human Rights, and the Just Transition” in the Master’s program in International and Development Studies, which critically examines issues such as green extractivism in relation to environmental justice and human rights.
Previously, Dr. Giacomini was a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Italy, where she conducted research on Indigenous knowledge, environmental protection, and the rights of nature.
Dr. Giacomini holds a PhD in Public, Comparative, and International Law from Sapienza University of Rome. She published a book based on her PhD thesis titled “Indigenous Peoples and Climate Justice: A Critical Analysis of International Human Rights Law and Governance” with Palgrave Macmillan in 2022.
