SDG 3 on Ensuring Healthy Lives and Promoting Well-Being for All at All Ages: Contributions of International Law, Policy and Governance
Dr. Maya Prabhu, Stephanie Blakely
This Issue Brief identifies features of the existing international legal instruments which are relevant to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 3 to ensure healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3 Health). In a very succinct manner that does not aspire to be comprehensive, the authors identify relevant international, regional and non-binding instruments; pinpoint challenges that States may encounter when implementing SDG 3; and consider legal and governance innovations to assist with overcoming those obstacles in order to meet the aspirations first articulated in the Preamble of the World Health Organization, to allow every human being “the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health” without “distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.
