The Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL) continues to strengthen its position as a significant contributor to legal research and education for sustainable societies and ecosystem protection. As detailed in its 2022-2024 Biennial Report, CISDL has achieved notable milestones, enhancing its reputation in sustainable development law.
As outlined in CISDL’s 2022-2024 Biennial Report, the Centre’s network has grown substantially, now encompassing over 8,400 sustainable development law contacts across more than 160 countries. Its prestigious fellowship program, comprising 149 fellows from 53 member countries, continues to enhance its global reach and expertise.
The 2022-2024 Biennial Report details how CISDL has made important contributions to climate law and governance through its involvement in Climate Law and Governance Day events during COP27 and COP28, as well as organizing roundtables and side events at SB59 and SB60. These efforts have helped shape international discussions on climate action, with one online roundtable attracting over 1,200 registrants from around the world.
The Centre’s commitment to education and capacity building is evident in its goal to increase climate law and governance specialists from 600 to 6,000 by 2024. By mid-2024, CISDL had trained over 2,500 specialists, making significant progress towards this target.
Initiatives such as the Voices of Future Generations Children’s Initiative and support for the Global Youth Council on Science, Law and Sustainability continue to demonstrate CISDL’s focus on engaging future leaders. The Centre has also contributed to expanding access to education through online sustainable development law and policy courses in collaboration with the University of Cambridge.
CISDL members continue to produce insightful publications on topics relating to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), collaborating with Cambridge University Press and other leading academic publishers. The Centre has also hosted lectures featuring prominent global leaders, reinforcing its academic standing and practical impact.
As CISDL continues to execute on its 2022-2027 strategic plan, it aims to further increase its global influence. The Centre’s ongoing commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, along with its expansion plans, positions it as an important player and trusted international voice in the field of sustainable development law.
These achievements underscore CISDL’s role in advancing sustainable development through legal scholarship and capacity building. As the Centre continues to evolve, it remains a notable force for innovation and progress in international sustainable development law.
