Creating Climate Law Capacity for Compliance – Advancing Legal and Governance Capacity-Building to Support Paris Agreement Implementation 17: 30-18:30, Capacity-building Day in the 2nd Capacity-building Hub at COP25, IFEMA (accreditation is required to attend this event) Summary: The focus of the session will be institutional capacity-building mechanisms under the Paris Agreement, with emphasis on developments since formation of the Katowice Rulebook at COP24. Topics for discussion will include how laws can strengthen adaptation and resilience and promote renewable energies, financial incentives, and the potential for investment and market instruments to enhance ambition and build capacity in developing countries. It will enable participants to learn from the insights of renowned international legal experts on the panel, and also to connect with practitioners from different fields, deepening their understanding of the legal and institutional mechanisms available to implement their NDCs and the Paris Agreement. Read more about Capacity-building Day here. 5 December – Achieving Climate Ambition and Implementation through Legal Change 14:30–15:30, UK Pavilion at COP25 (accreditation is required to attend this event) Summary: Regulation and institutional reform are increasingly being used around the world to enhance ambition, implement the Paris Agreement and NDC targets, and stimulate cooperation. The law can require climate mitigation, adaptation and finance outcomes, send signals to markets, and incentivise transition. This panel provides a briefing on recent climate law innovations from different countries including the UK, surveys progress and lessons learned, and discusses their impact. Click here for more information. 6 December – Climate Law and Governance Day 2019 8:30 AM – 6:00 pm, Autonomous University of Madrid Faculty of Law (click here to view the event poster) Summary: Climate Law and Governance Day (CLGD) brings together climate law experts, but also experts from other legal branches including public law, tort law, financial law, international economic law as well as governance experts, delegates and policy practitioners to exchange knowledge and experiences.
