The Executive Secretary of the CBD has underlined the need for better integration of CBD programmes of work (POW) and cross-cutting initiatives and exploring synergies within the CBD and with other conventions, notably finding opportunities for mainstreaming biodiversity into other sectors with biodiversity promoted as a solution to achieve broader societal goals. The objective of the IDLO-CISDL Project on Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets is to support such cross-cutting legal reform that addresses the causes of biodiversity loss resulting from different economic sectors. The Working Paper examines the legal nature of eight Aichi Biodiversity Targets (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 14 and 17) which are central to achieving the vision and mission of the CBD Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
