Associate Professor Katalin Sulyok (Ph.D., LL.M. (Harvard), B.S.c.)  is Associate Professor in International Law and Sustainability at Durham University. She is Lead Author in the IPCC’s 7th Assessment cycle in Working Group 3 (mitigation of climate change). Her research areas include environmental adjudication, the law-science interface, intergenerational equity, and climate law. Dr Sulyok has been legal advisor in domestic and international climate litigation cases, including for the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions, which was an oral intervener in the landmark KlimaSeniorinnen v Switzerland case before the European Court of Human Rights. She has been chief of staff and chief legal advisor of the Ombudsman for Future Generations of Hungary between 2014-2024.

She has been visiting researcher, among others, at Lauterpacht Centre, the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, Sorbonne University, and University of Graz. Her PhD thesis was awarded the Henry Wheaton Prize by the Institute de Droit International and was published as a monograph by Cambridge University Press entitled Science and Judicial Reasoning – The Legitimacy of International Environmental Adjudication. She was awarded the HE Judge CG and Rosemary Weeramantry Global Fellowship for International Law on Sustainable Development  between 2026-2028.
